Two common discussions regarding the Casita bed are supplementing or replacing the stock cushions for comfort and the difficulty of making it. We are fine with the stock cushions on our 2021 Liberty and I don’t find making the bed is that big a deal. This is what the bed looked like on the old self-propelled floating RV (a Catalina 30 sailboat):

As you can see, it’s not close to square. Getting in required climbing up, and if you sat up all the way, you’d bump your head. So we think the high-clearance king-sized bed in the Liberty is luxury at its finest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To set up the bed, we take the big table down and span it and a couple of small table pieces between the benches. This leaves a little space in the bottom center to stand with the bed made and allow the refrigerator to open. Then we rearrange the cushions. They are tight across the rear of the trailer, so what works best is to set the long back cushions in an inverted vee and then push them down together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first key to easy bed-making is proper equipment. Because the cushions are so tight, it’s easiest to just use flat sheets. We have an aqua king sheet<\/a> we use as the bottom sheet and a blue queen<\/a> for the top. Having two different colors makes it easy to keep track of which is which, so this setup shows intelligence, foresight, and planning. Any rumor that I waited until the last possible moment to order them before our first camping trip, and these were the colors I could get delivered in time, is Slander, I say! Slander!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, I fold the top of the bottom sheet in half to find its center point. That gets pushed into the back center, where the inserted cushions come together. Then the sheet is spread out, and the edges are simply tucked into the space between the cushion and the wall. The color-coded queen top sheet is added on top and tucked in at the bottom. In cold weather, a comforter (not shown) goes on top to keep us warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
